Working in a multi-modality clinic means I get to work with a diverse group of like minded practitioners, who together can collaborate to assist with treating a client’s illness and health concerns, from all angles. Leeanne, from Elite Bowen Therapy, is a very experienced Bowen Therapist who uses a holistic approach when treating her clients, meaning she gets fast and effective results. My daughter has had personal experience with Leeanne recently after being diagnosed with Sever’s in her heels, an inflammatory condition that is caused by rapid growth and lots of physical activity, leading to heel and calf pain. With Bowen Therapy treatment, massage and chiropractic care, we have alleviated some of her pain to a manageable level!

I had a chat with Leeanne about her business and her journey to becoming a sought after Bowen Therapist.

Here’s what she had to say…

A: Firstly, thanks so much taking the time to chat with you today about Bowen Therapy and your Business Elite Bowen therapy

L: Thanks Amanda for the opportunity to tell you all about not only Bowen Therapy, but also the extra services I provide collectively for the benefit of the patient.

A: Tell us all a bit about you and your journey to becoming a Bowen Therapist

L: My Bowen journey began when I was training heavily for the Busselton Half Ironman. I found myself in a bit of trouble with some overuse injuries and was struggling to continue.  I had a friend that was training as a Bowen Therapist and I was her practice buddy. I truly believe that Bowen is the reason I could continue training and got me to the start line. When the opportunity came up for me to become a student, I jumped in and the rest is history. I have since followed on with the Diploma, Various workshops and continuing education to keep up to date with the latest proven procedures. I have also trained in a specialised Scar tissue release protocol and I now use a device in the clinic called a Physiokey, a TRG approved appliance which is an Interactive Nerve Stimulator, which uses Biofeedback from the body to assist the healing process. I have been making natural body product for 15 years, which I use in the clinic as required.

A: For those that aren’t familiar with Bowen Therapy, can you explain what it is you do, and the principles behind Bowen Therapy treatment?

L:  Bowen is a holistic remedial body technique that focuses on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body. Bowen therapy can be used to treat musculoskeletal or related neurological problems including acute sports injuries and chronic or overuse conditions. It is gentle and relaxing and does not use manipulation techniques.

Bowen therapy is performed on the body to influence superficial and deep fascia. The fascia, or soft tissue, is the part of the connective tissue that envelops, separates and influences every organ and tissue in the body. If this tissue becomes damaged, it can cause restrictions and pain which can refer throughout the body as fascia is present and connected throughout the body.

Bowen is safe to use on anyone, from newborns to the elderly and for any musculoskeletal or related neuromuscular complaint. It is a holistic treatment that treats the whole person and aims to treat the cause of problems, rather than the symptoms.

A: How does Bowen Therapy differ to say chiropractic, osteopathic and physiotherapy treatments?

L: I cannot comment on other forms of body work, however, I feel that a combined treatment program between various modalities can be beneficial to overall health and wellbeing. I will refer to other health practitioners as I feel the person will benefit. I love working in a clinic setting with other health professionals, as we can work as a team to deliver personalised treatment plans to benefit the individual as required.

A: What are the most common issues people have presented with in the clinic?

L: Many people come for a Bowen Treatment as someone they know has results in the past, I find that word of mouth is my best form of advertising. There are many differing reasons that people seek Bowen but most common are migraines, back pain, neck pain, shoulder soreness, knee and ankle issues. Hormonal complaints, sleep issues and stress have been reported to improve after Bowen Therapy. Pretty much, anything going on within the body that restricts movement, causes pain or affects daily lifestyle choices can be assisted  with Bowen Therapy. Clients that sit all, day such as truck drivers and office workers. People with physical, repetitive work and athletes can see great benefits from regular Bowen Treatments, but mostly people that are sore and tired from life responsibilities find that it’s a great treatment which is relaxing, as well as addressing areas of pain and stiffness.

A: How quickly do people usually see results with your treatment?

L: Most people see positive results immediately. There are a few stubborn issues which take longer to see some results, but usually within 3 treatments, each a week apart, will see marked overall improvement.

A: Where can people find you if they are interested in booking an appointment?

L: Bookings can be made directly though the Holistic Lifestyler clinic on 0420 303 122. More information regarding Bowen Therapy and bookings can be found at elitebowentherapy.com.au. We are on Facebook, be sure to like our page, Elite Bowen Therapy, to keep up to date.
